A light-filled loft in Fair Park.

The studio is a second-floor loft in Fair Park with a wall of steel-frame windows and white brick. The light comes in soft and wide for most of the day, which is the reason the room was chosen and the reason most of the work looks the way it does.

It is a private space. One sitting at a time, no other clients in the building, and nothing about the day happens in front of anyone who isn’t working on it.

Behind the natural light there is a full set: a collection of hand-painted canvases from Sarah Oliphant’s studio in New York, and the flower wall. Most sittings move through two or three backdrops in an afternoon.

Hair and makeup are done here, at a lit mirror off the main room, so you walk from the chair onto the set. The wardrobe rack in the corner holds the gowns and textiles we style from: silks, tailored silhouettes, and editorial pieces gathered over the years for how they hold the light in this room, ready to complement whatever you bring.

Every print is made by Andrew himself, on cotton rag, and the finished pieces come back to this room for viewing. You see the portrait on paper, in the light it was made in, which is a different experience from seeing it on a screen and the one we think a commission deserves.
