STUDIO TOUR- SUE BRYCE EDUCATION

My friend and mentor, Sue Bryce, is one of the most celebrated photographers of our time. She has created an online community that serves as an educational and inspirational platform for photographers worldwide. Studio Tours is a video series she has created for her website, where she showcases some of her students' studios. I was thrilled when she recently asked to feature AJK Images in Dallas. If you have been following me for long or have read back into my older blog posts, the Creative Live event I posted about in 2015 is when I first met Sue and where this all began.

My studio space is an old grocery store, and although industrial-looking from the outside, I've transformed the inside into something I consider pretty special. Many of the elements in my studio were originally inspired by Sue, so getting to showoff things like my flower wall, hand-painted canvas backdrops, custom dresses, and vintage frame collection was such a treat.

One of my favorite parts of the day was when we did a photo shoot for my client, Alison. From throwing hair, to guiding me with posing, Sue graciously played the dual role of assistant/mentor. Collaborating with Sue was surreal, and the images we got are absolutely incredible! 

Something that you won't really see in the video, is that Sue not only mentored me throughout the shoot, she also mentored my team. She showed my assistants how to get the perfect amount of movement in my subject's hair with the fan. She showed my makeup artist and hairstylist how to create looks that will be timeless, beautiful today and beautiful 40 years from now. My team and I left inspired and educated in ways that truly elevated the experience I'm able to offer my clients.
